Nail Biters Anonymous…

…if there isn’t a Nail Biters Anonymous support group, there should be, and I could be the leader!

My name is Lauren. I’m 29. I’ve been a chronic nail biter pretty much since I’ve had teeth. I lived with nubby, bitten-off fingernails all of my life. I’ve done just about everything I can think of to stop biting my nails – that nasty clear polish made to help you keep your nails out of your mouth, acrylic nails, and just about any other nail enhancement out there. None of them have worked for me. But, I’ve finally come to the point where I don’t want to pay to have acrylic nails any more and I just want to grow out my own nails.

In order to do this, I’ve decided that it will be better to become a polish addict. I’ve always had a thing for color, so this could work as long as I keep up on painting my nails rather than biting them off.

Rather than talking about the addiction I’ve lived with for a good chunk of my life, I figured I could post pictures of how my nails look each day to keep the momentum going. Perhaps knowing that the pictures are on the Internet where all can see, maybe it’ll help me become accountable for my addiction. If nothing else, it’ll help some other people in seeing what color they’d like to paint their nails today 🙂

Here’s today’s picture:
I went on a little bit of a binge last night and bought 3 new OPI polishes. This is “I Have a Herring Problem” from the Holland Collection. I love this color and it really reminds me of a great pair of blue jeans with a little added gold glitter thrown in. It’s not overly glittery though and I think that’s part of the reason I love it. It was super easy to apply and this is 2 coats.

As far as length, my nails aren’t as horrible as they’ve been in the past…I’ve bitten them until they bleed before. But they are super-thin and splitting in places. I had acrylic nails on for about 6 months up until a few days ago, so getting past the point where they aren’t damaged will be difficult.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions on how to strengthen your nails without causing more damage? I used Sally Hansen Hard as Nails as top coat, but it’s not helping much. Hopefully, I’ll notice some improvement soon.

Till Tomorrow,
Lauren  :o)
